When Life Gives You Fakes, Make Memes!

Hey there, Poké-fans! Evina here from TCG Almanac with a story that'll have you laughing faster than a Gengar with a good joke!

One brave Trainer decided to take a $7 gamble on some obviously counterfeit Prismatic packs, and the results were exactly what you'd expect - hilariously bad!

The Faker's Ball Incident

Our friend u/Gerren7 shared their adventure with these AliExpress specials, quipping: "I couldn't resist for $7. I trashed them. But it was a good night of laughs opening them with friends." Talk about making the best of a Gastly situation!

The community quickly spotted all the telltale signs of these fakes:

"Pack has ridges, normal packs aren't supposed to have those. Cards are also missing texture," explained u/Patrick0714.

Another Trainer, u/aRealShmuck, perfectly described the terrible holofoil effect as "the Chinese oil spill holo" - and I couldn't have said it better myself!

Worth The Entertainment Value?

Despite being completely fake, these packs provided some genuine entertainment. As u/Lord-Nagafen pointed out: "I mean for $7 you get some entertainment opening up the packs and an Umbreon proxy. That sounds like a steal."

The community had a field day coming up with hilarious names for these counterfeits:

  • "Temu Evolutions"

  • "Alibaba Crispacket Evildilutions"

  • "The Sheinbreon"

  • "ExxonMoonbreon"

How to Spot Fake Pokémon Cards

For those new to collecting, here are some quick tips to identify counterfeits:

  1. Check the card texture - Authentic cards have specific texture patterns that fakes often miss

  2. Examine the card backs - Counterfeit cards often have incorrect coloring or blurry details

  3. Look at pack sealing - Official packs have clean, professional sealing without ridges or bumps

  4. Compare the holofoil effect - Real Pokémon cards have sophisticated holographic patterns that are difficult to replicate

  5. Trust your price intuition - If it's too good to be true, it probably is!

A Serious Side Note

While we can laugh at obvious fakes, the flood of counterfeits highlights a frustrating reality for many collectors. With legitimate Prismatic packs nearly impossible to find at retail, many Trainers are feeling defeated.

"Pokemon Co. needs to print more product... When I finish 151 I'm likely done because I can't even find product on shelf ," shared u/Extra_Heart_268, expressing a sentiment many collectors relate to.

Remember, Trainers - always be vigilant when purchasing cards! If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is more suspicious than a Ditto pretending to be a Charizard!
